one of the reasons i started this blog is to contradict some or most i should say expat blogs i have read. not all but a good 80% of these expat in kz blogs go like this... " and i went to the store and they didn't have the shampoo i use in belgium i hate this country !" or " oh my god i tried to use the bus the other day and everyone was SOO rude and not helpful at all and some of them even smelled of b.o. " these blogs crack me up. when i first came here it took some time for me to adjust too but i at least entered the experience with some what of an open mind. things are very different here then at home, but that's part of the reason i moved. and the thing i have even more come to realize is that whilst things are very different then at home, there are also many things that are the same. i feel bad that when new expats come here and try to search out familiar voices in blogs or forums to help them cope with the change in there surroundings, the majority of what they find are whiny little stuck up expats who expect almaty or astana or aktobe to be JUST like akron or brussels or wales...its not and you should have assumed that coming here so suck up your lip and grow up a bit.
just a side note while out in the city today i saw 2 corvettes a black one and a red one, i would just like to give a big molodets! to these 2 guys, way to at least have some style and originality in how you blow your money rather then a over-priced, under-performing refrigerator looking suv ( the mercedes g-wagon .)

ice and obama
just as i described this blog to be...things that were on my mind and things that piss me off. first things that piss me off, ice. ice oh ice the bain of my pedestrian existence. the ever present ever treacherous walking companion and foe. here in almaty ice is a way of life, it is harder to find stretches of sidewalk or road without it, then those covered in seemingly feet of it. my fall-count this winter is only at two so far but one of them landed me on my back tearing of a button my coat. however no one saw it happen witch is the most important fact. only two actual falls but what i consider much MUCH more annoying the as i like to call it " oh shit , fucking ice " slip. this is that slip where you almost fall but end up just looking like your having a leg seizure. i hate ice for this, for the fact it actually slows down my walking travels due to the ever present slips and the endless search for the not iced part of the sidewalk. in a city that seems obsess over opulence, wealth and stature it amazes me we can't get some fucking salt shook on some sidewalks.
but anyway on to more pressing issues...my new president the obamanator. first off yes i am an obama supporter. i am a fiscally conservative liberal and support most of the obama agenda. however i am not a zombie who has been hypnotized by his admitted charm, grace and speaking ability. i am certainly impressed with the man and wish him all the best and hope that he can right the great american ship. however i am more interested to see what happens now. as always any politician running for office is never a politician during the campaign, there a regular joe. but once inside the oval office it all seems to change. it sort of reminds me of high school, how when you picked your schedule you had 3 days in the class before you were locked in and couldn't change it, the teacher was super nice and boasted an easy work load and not much homework. oh but once those 3 days were over the monster came out and it was 500 word essays due by friday. similarly I'm waiting for obama's 3 days to be over, to see what the oval office will do to him. anyway its late and i am tired have a good one.

(for now until i loose interest.) this will most likely end up just being ramblings about whatever is on my mind or most likely some stupid thing that pissed me off enough to log on here and write about it. anyway i hope you enjoy. i would love to get feedback from my readers particularly other expats here in the k-tan.
